Some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have planned to sow seeds of tension between Asantes and Akyems in a bid to weaken the strength of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Mr John Boadu, Acting General Secretary of the NPP, has said.
According to him, the NDC has seen that a united NPP will make it impossible for them to win any major elections anytime soon, therefore, their ploy to create a feud between the two ethnic groups.
Mr Boadu’s comments come on the heels of a closed-door meeting between President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II following the traditional leader’s complaint that Mr Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko and the president’s Executive Secretary, Nana Asante Bediatuo, were plotting to undermine him.
Speaking on Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM hosted by Chief Jerry Forson on Wednesday, 9 May, Mr Boadu said: “Some people, especially in the NDC, are inflaming the issue.
“They [NDC] know that the NPP’s strength is in the Ashanti Region, and, so, will want to do anything possible to weaken that strength. That has been their campaign over the years.”
