Hohoe, March 12, GNA-Professor John Evans Atta Mills, Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Wednesday pledged that the government of the NDC would mitigate the hardships of the citizenry by taking measures that would enable them to earn decent livelihoods by putting money into their pockets. He said politics is about seeking the welfare of the people and not by intimidation, vindictiveness, corruption and polarization of the populace. Prof Mills said this at a durbar at Hohoe, as part of his 10-day nationwide tour to canvass for votes towards the December general elections. He said his government would develop the tourism potentials of the Volta Region to appreciable standards to enable the people to reap the economic benefits in that sector.
Prof. Mills said his government would develop the potentials of bamboo into a thriving industry, review the conditions of service of teachers, tackle road construction vigorously and ensure that the revenue from country's crude oil are judiciously used. Dr. Kwabena Adjei, National Chairman of NDC called on the rank and file of the party to be wary of detractors and forge a common front for total victory during the elections. Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofoh, National Organizer of the NDC said the organization of primaries was a legitimate democratic exercise, which should not generate hostility to the extent of undermining party structures and cohesion.
Earlier at the Palace of the Paramount Chief of Gbi Traditional Area, Togbega Gabusu VI, where Prof. Mills and his entourage paid a courtesy call, the traditional authorities appealed to all politicians to embark on the electioneering campaigns with decency and civility. Accompanying Prof. Mills were high profile functionaries, including Alhaji Mohamed Mumuni, former running mate, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary and Mrs Ama Benyiwa Doe, National Women Organizer.
