NDC hopeful of winning Atiwa seat

Tumfa (E/R), Aug. 28, GNA - Mr Attah Twum, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for next Tuesday's by-election in the Atiwa constituency, said he was hopeful of capturing the seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking at a rally at Tumfa, Mr Twum, the current District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atiwa, said judging from his excellent performance as DCE, the people believed he should be elevated to a parliamentarian.

The Atiwa seat became vacant following the death in London of Mr Kwasi Annor Ankamah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area.

The three other candidates in the race are; Mr Kwasi Amoako Attah of the NPP, Mr George Padmore Apraku, of the New Vision Party and Mr Kasum Abdul Kalim of the People's National Convention (PNC).

Mr Twum lost to Mr Ankamah in the 2008 Parliamentary elections but indicated that within a short time he had worked as DCE, he had provided a number of projects for the education and health sectors as well as engaged in job creation that had endeared him to the electorate.

Mr Tawiah Boateng, Eastern Regional Organizer of the NDC, appealed to the electorate to vote overwhelmingly for Mr Twum if they wanted to see real development at Atiwa.

He said Mr Twum was a ministerial material who could be appointed a cabinet minister if he got to Parliament, explaining that Eastern Region had no cabinet minister in the current administration.

Mr Boateng called on party supporters voting on Tuesday to avoid any election malpractices since the party would not come to the aid of anyone who would break the law.

Hajia Ntene Adam, Deputy Brong Ahafo Women's Organizer of the party, said the youth stood to gain if they actively supported the NDC since there were lots of interventions to improve their lot.

She said President John Evans Attah Mills had not forgotten the promises he made to Ghanaians and was working hard to live up to expectation in fulfilment of his better Ghana Agenda.
