The Member of Parliament for Assin South and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of deliberately evading a joint security briefing to address pressing national security concerns.

In a post on Thursday, April 3, 2025, John Ntim Fordjour claimed that the government is avoiding accountability on several high-profile incidents, including suspected drug trafficking and money laundering activities, for which he has requested a joint briefing by the National Security, the police CID, the Narcotics Control Commission, and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).

“They have demonstrated clearly they have something to hide. After I demanded a joint briefing of National Security, NIB, police CID, Narcotics Control Commission, they have evaded the meeting and are avoiding a meeting to provide updates on investigations into the specific security matters raised. I shall, therefore, explore every Parliamentary tool at my disposal in the exercise of oversight until we have answers…” he wrote.

The MP’s concerns stem from a series of events that have raised alarm in recent months.

On February 9, National Security officials seized gold and cash in Accra, but nearly two months later, no updates have been provided on the total amount confiscated or the status of the investigation.

In March, two major cocaine busts, valued at $350 million and $120 million, were reported, further fueling fears that Ghana is becoming a hub for drug trafficking.

Additionally, two suspicious flights, AirMed Flight N823AM and Cavok Air’s Antonov An-12B, supposedly landed at the Kotoka International Airport in March, with the Minority alleging that the air ambulance N823AM carried cocaine and US dollars, instead of patients.

Flightradar24 data confirms that N823AM arrived in Accra on March 20 and departed for Gran Canaria on March 25 after a five-day stay.

Meanwhile, President John Mahama has issued a directive instructing all security agencies to collaborate with John Ntim Fordjour in investigating allegations he raised during a press conference on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, regarding drug trafficking and money laundering involving the two suspicious flights at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

According to the president, Ghana has a zero-tolerance policy for drug trafficking and will not allow the country to be used as a transit or final destination for illicit drugs.
