A group of concerned National Democratic Congress (NDC) members in the Atebubu-Amantin Municipality have commended President John Dramani Mahama over reports suggesting the potential nomination of Peter Menka Boadu as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area.

According to the group, Boadu’s rumoured nomination represents a step toward inclusiveness, unity, and development in the municipality.

They argue that his exceptional leadership qualities, business acumen, and commitment to the party make him a strong candidate for the role.

The concerned NDC members stated that Boadu’s Akan background may have influenced the president’s decision, given the constituency’s demographic composition.

However, they emphasised that beyond ethnicity, his nomination would be based on merit, his contributions to the party, and his ability to serve the constituency effectively.

They pointed out that his financial and logistical support for the party over the years has distinguished him from other prospective candidates.

Citing historical election results, the group stressed the importance of Akan support for the NDC’s electoral fortunes in the constituency.

They referenced the 2016 parliamentary elections, where the party lost the seat for the first time, attributing the defeat to a decline in votes from Akan communities.

Additionally, the group expressed concerns over what they perceive as a lack of balance in the constituency’s political representation.

They noted that most constituency executives, including the sitting Member of Parliament, Sanja Nanja, are settlers or non-natives.

Given this situation, they believe that appointing an Akan as MCE would foster inclusiveness and party unity.

“As the constituency is led by Hon. Sanja Nanja, a settler MP, it is crucial for Mr. Boadu to work collaboratively with the MP and other stakeholders to address the unique needs and challenges of the Atebubu-Amantin Constituency.

"His experience and expertise will undoubtedly be valuable assets in driving development and progress in the constituency,” a statement signed by the convener of the group, Owusu Brobbey Daniel. read.

The group further pointed to a pattern observed in other constituencies such as Wenchi, Kintampo South, Sene West, Pru West, and Asutifi South, where MCE and DCE appointments have been strategically balanced between natives and settlers to promote cohesion.

They believe that adopting a similar approach in Atebubu-Amantin will strengthen the party’s support base ahead of future elections.

The group, therefore, urged Peter Menka Boadu, if appointed, to work collaboratively with Sanja Nanja and other stakeholders to address the unique developmental needs of the constituency.

Concluding their statement, the concerned NDC members called on all party members to embrace the anticipated decision and work toward the party’s collective progress.
