NDC only deceives – Akufo-Addo

The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is throwing dust into the eyes of Ghanaians by indicating that programmes of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) such as the one-factory-per-district policy proposed ahead of this year’s elections, is not feasible, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, flagbearer of the biggest opposition party has said.

According to him, the NDC has gained notoriety for doubting the feasibility of plans and programmes of the NPP.

Speaking to a gathering in Bechem, in the Tano South District of the Brong Ahafo Region on Friday July 8, as part of his tour of the region, Mr Akufo-Addo recounted that when the NPP was campaigning ahead of the 2000 elections, the NDC, led by Professor John Evans Atta Mills, told Ghanaians that then candidate Kufuor’s promise to introduce the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) was not achievable. But when the NPP eventually won that election, the NHIS was introduced.

On the back of this, he has asked Ghanaians to have confidence in the NPP’s promises and vote for him to become the next president of Ghana to implement life-changing programmes that will impact citizens.

“When President Kufuor was campaigning for the 2000 elections, he promised to introduce the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to assist all Ghanaians in the area of healthcare delivery, but the National Democratic Congress led by Professor Evans Atta Mills said it was impossible and that Mr Kufour was deceiving Ghanaians with the promise.

But eventually, when President Kufour won, he introduced the NHIS to benefit all Ghanaians.

“In the 2012 elections, I said God-willing, if I became the next President, I would introduce free senior high school education, but President Mahama said it was impossible, but when he won he said he would do it in addition to building 200 community day senior high schools, but he has only managed to build just five and so which one of us was deceiving Ghanaians?” He asked.

The three-time flagbearer of the NPP added: “And so when we propose plans and programmes, we will implement it. I cannot disrespect Ghanaians and tell them something I cannot do. The one-district-one-factory plan is a well thought-through programme and we will do it to create more jobs for Ghanaians.”
