The Director of Operations of the National Democratic Party (NDP) has alleged that the ruling National Democratic Congress has planned to assassinate the former First Lady and founder of the opposition party, Nana Kondau Agyemang Rawlings.
Joseph Bediako made the allegation when speaking with Kwame Tutu on Rainbow Radio on Monday morning.
He said, "The NDC wants to assassinate Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings. They have plotted to kill the former First Lady.''
The National Coordinator of Friends of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings (FONKAR) said he was not exaggerating or accusing the NDC falsely because they have evidence to that effect.
According to him, the NDC employed the services of one guy who insisted on seeing the founder of the NDP some time in January this year one-on-one, but he [Joseph Bediako] refused to allow him see the former First Lady alone and because of that, the guy left.
He further alleged that one Roger who works at the Flagstaff House as a driver two weeks ago came to Nana Konadu's office insisting to meet her one-on-one but he was asked to give me [Joseph Bediako] reasons for the meeting, but he insisted on seeing her [Nana Konadu] one-on-one, however, the former First Lady refused to see him if he [Roger] fails to give reasons for his visit.
Joseph Bediako said he finds it strange for Roger's visit since the former First Lady had nothing to do with the ruling government.
He told the host that Roger removed a pistol from his suit after he had escorted him into his car, a scene he described as shocking.
"Roger came there purposely to assassinate the former First Lady but he was not successful. He was further exposed after I escorted him to his car; he removed a pistol from his suit...I later told the founder of our party that she needs to take her security serious because the NDC are plotting to assassinate her."
Joseph Bediako said they don't trust the police to handle this plot, hence they have adopted their own security measures to foil any attempt by the NDC to kill Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.
He said the NDC keep on frustrating the former First Lady any time she embarks on programmes or activities to interact with Ghanaians.
He said the NDC plotted to disrupt a programme dubbed 'Time With Legon,” which was organised by the University of Ghana SRC, the Commonwealth Hall JCR and the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG) over the weekend.
Joseph Bediako warned the NDC, especially Okudjeto Ablakwa, to thread cautiously because their attempt will not wash.
Roger Azarmeti in response to the allegations, although confirmed going to the office of the First Lady, denied the claims of planning to kill her.
"How can I go and kill a woman," he quizzed. He added "I cannot do that and I will never do that, I fear my God."
According to him, his intention was not ill-motivated as Joseph Bediako alleged. He vowed not to step foot at the office of the former First Lady again.
