President John Mahama is not averse to internal competition, presidential Staffer Dr Clement Apaak has told Starr news.
Apaak, nonetheless believes anybody who contests the President for the governing party’s flag-bearership slot will fail miserably.
He was contributing to a debate sparked within the party about whether the President should go uncontested ahead of the 2016 presidential elections.
General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia recently said any party member or group of party members who intend presenting an alternative candidate to contest President Mahama for the Flagbearer slot will be doing so out of ignorance or plain malice.
“Either they don’t understand the meaning of what they are doing, or they want to bring the party down,” Asiedu Nketia said Thursday.
The former Legislator, who is also vying to retain his position in the party’s forthcoming national congress scheduled for December 20, 2014 in Kumasi, expressed anger at the possibility of anybody considering the idea of contesting the President for the slot.
The NDC has not hidden its intention to present President Mahama as leader for another presidential election.
It is not clear if there are any attempts to give the President competition in the party’s Flag-bearership race, for which reason Mr Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito, could be so angry.
