The First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Asunafo North Constituency, Emmanuel Frimpong Boadu, is convinced that the 24-hour economy policy proposed by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not be a decisive factor in the December polls.

Chairman Boadu is highly optimistic that the 24-hour economy policy will not sway votes for the NDC in the Asunafo Constituency because the policy is not a novelty to the constituents.

Speaking during a "mega walk" in Mim organised by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), he refuted claims that the NDC is making inroads in the Asunafo North constituency and other constituencies because of the 24-hour economy policy.

“If anybody tells you that the NDC is gaining grounds in the Asunafo North Constituency because of the 24-hour economy, it is not true. The policy is not groundbreaking to the people so it is not gaining any momentum”.

He asserted that the people of Asunafo North will not be swayed by the 24-hour economy policy because industries in the area for years have effectively been operating a 24-hour system.

“Their policy is not new to the people of this constituency because all the timber and agro manufacturing companies in Mim have been operating 24/7 since the 2000s. For instance, Ayum Company Limited, formerly Mim Timbers, and several other companies in Mim have been operating 24 hours since the 2000s”.

He stressed that his understanding of an economy is the aggregation of production and consumption, with production serving solely to meet real demand, and emphasised that for most Ghanaian businesses, the main constraint is market size rather than operating hours, which cannot be expanded by the NDC’s mere declaration of a 24-hour economy.

"No matter how many hours a business is open, it cannot thrive without a sufficient market, that is, real demand to support it and the solution to this problem is not in the 24-hour economy policy”.

He urged the people of Mim to embrace the NPP's transformational agenda by voting massively for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Evans Opoku Bobie based on his achievements in the constituency within the last eight years as their Member of Parliament.
