Prof. Joshua Alabi, head of the 2024 NDC's campaign team, has explained the party’s decision to launch its campaign for the December 7, 2024 general elections.
According to him, the primary reason for the launch was to intensify the fight against state capture by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), led by President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice-President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, who is also the NPP’s flagbearer for the upcoming elections.
Prof. Alabi stated that the campaign launch is part of the NDC’s effort to stop the state capture being exhibited by the NPP and its affiliates in government.
He emphasized that democracy should focus on the welfare of the masses rather than the interests of the leader and his family, which he claims is the current government's priority.
He stressed that democracy is fundamentally about the well-being of the people, which is why citizens vote for political parties.
Drawing an analogy, he compared democracy to a football match, where the goal is to celebrate a victory and go to sleep, but democracy is all about the benefits for everyone.
Prof. Alabi made these remarks during the NDC's 2024 campaign launch, themed "Change to Reset Ghana," at Jubilee Park in Tamale, the Northern Regional capital, on Saturday, July 27, 2024.
