The Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Malik Basintale, has emphasised that his primary concern is how the party will fulfill its campaign promises.

In an interview on TV3 on December 17, 2024, he indicated that the focus should not be on who will take over from President-Elect John Dramani Mahama, but rather on ensuring that Mahama succeeds in delivering the party's mandate following his historic re-election.

"My interest now is not in who should contest or not. The biggest concern on my mind is how we are going to deliver on our promises. That is the main issue. Whoever takes over from John Mahama, whoever does this, is entirely premature. You don't ejaculate when you have not reached your destination.

"We must proceed step by step. The first task ahead of us is to deliver on our mandate, and that is my main concern now," he noted.

He explained that the party's ability to stay in power will depend on the fulfillment of its campaign promises.

"I woke up this morning, and before I left the house, I held my head. I was reflecting on a lot of things we said, and I realised that we need to achieve our goals to stay in power forever. To stay in power forever, we need to achieve and deliver on our mandate, and that is what I am thinking about.

"So, when I hear people asking 'after John Mahama, what next?' I say, let's focus on John Mahama now. Let's help President Mahama succeed, let's work for him tirelessly, let's stand by him. If he succeeds, and we go and bring a spoon, I am sure the people will vote for him," he added.
