Former National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Anthony Karbo has condemned the act of intimidation tactics employed by some officials from the Ministry of Education to stop the NPP’s Running Mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia meeting the students of Dambai Training College in the Volta region.
Enlisting Dambai Training College visit as the second attempt to stop Dr. Bawumia in the Volta Region, the NPP Parliamentary candidate for Lawra Constituency feared this behaviour of the government can pose future consequences in the country if it is allowed to continue.
“This is not the first time Dr. Bawumia wants to go to the Volta region to meet students that the government has planned to stop him with intimidation tactics and to make sure that a certain political party cannot go to a part of Ghana,” he recounted.
“And if we don’t take care this kind of behaviour can cause consequences in the country because Dr. Bawumia when he went to Upper West at Tumu Training College, he interacted with the students and we have not had any issue with many other training colleges we have visited, and so why is Dambai Training College visit a problem, some people want to employ intimidation tactics to stop us from going there?” he added.
It was an interesting spectacle on the Dambai College of Education Campus on Monday, when local NDC officials in the Krachi East Constituency flooded the Institution with bags of Gari as enticements for students just before NPP Running Mate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's interaction with the students.
Events started taking an interesting turn when a day before the scheduled forum at the Dambai College of Education Campus, authorities informed the NPP in the region that Dr. Bawumia will not be allowed on the premises of the Campus after the authorities received a directive from the Ministry of Education.
However, Students and some Lecturers of the College, undaunted and determined to meet the NPP Vice Presidential Candidate, organized the forum on a park outside the School premises.
Anthony Karbo on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show revealed that many of the students in Dambai Training College who voted for the NDC are disappointed and their zeal to meet with Dr. Bawumia was a signal that they are ready to listen to the voice of change and the voice of hope.
He insisted that every political party has the democratic right to visit all the ten regions in Ghana without any form of intimidation under the guise of order from above to stop the political parties from engaging with people.
“...our hope is in Ghanaians and in God that surely the change Ghanaians want will see the light of the day and so if they have their authority, the police, military and Ghana’s money and so they can use them to their advantage, the NDC should position themselves well,” he assured.
“This is not 2012; this is not 2008 but this is 2016, marking 8 years of this government. And this election is not child’s play but serious contest we find ourselves in...We will continue with our program in the Volta region. There is nothing that is going to stop us from going through our program in the Volta region. We are in progress with our program,” he charged.
