NDC 'saves' chairman

Daily Guide -- The National Democratic Congress has finally declared its newly elected National Chairman, Dr Kwabena Adjei a ?broke man? as it rallies support to save him from being thrown out of his house following his indebtedness to the Ghana Leasing Company.

According to the party?s National First Vice Chairperson, Madam Juliet Hilda Salifu Bolco, Dr Adjei may soon be rendered homeless if concerted efforts are not made to pay up his ?150 million debt to the Ghana Leasing Company.

? Please note that your kind gesture in contributing any amount to this project will go along way to save a family from being thrown out onto the street,? a statement jointly signed by Madam Bolco and Danny Ofori Atta of EGLE party and dated January 14, 2006.

Under the sponsorship of ?Coalition of Friends of Dr Kwabena Adjei?, Madam Bolco and Danny organizers of the ?save Kwabena Adjei House campaign last Saturday invited NDC MPs, businessmen and sympathizers of the newly elected chairman to help in raising ?150 million to settle his debts to Ghana Leasing Company.

The emergency fund raising was held at Guest Hotel, East Legon in Accra where ?30 million was realised from both cash and pledges.

According to Danny Ofori Atta, he accepted to participate in the fundraising where he donated ?5 million ?because Dr Adjei is broke, pure and simple and that was the only way to show love to him,?

Party gurus such as E.T Mensah, MP for Ningo Prampram, Doe Adjaho, MP for Avenor and Deputy Minority Leader were present at the event.

Snippets of information indicate that the MPs who have been asked to contribute ?150,000 complained openly that a broke man chairman had been imposed on them.

The fundraisers have also extended their request to other MPs as Parliamentarians returned to the House after a Christmas recess only to find the notice for the appeal for fund in their pigeonholes.
