The Director of Elections and IT for the NDC, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has expressed concern about the Electoral Commission's readiness and ability to organise and conduct the upcoming general elections, with only seven days left before the polls.

Speaking to the media at the IPAC meeting with the Electoral Commission on Friday, November 29, 2024, Dr. Omane Boamah highlighted concerns about a shortage of ballot papers in some constituencies just days before the elections.

He criticised the Electoral Commission's preparedness, giving them a poor rating of 3.7 out of 10 for their readiness for the upcoming polls.

"I will rate them 3.7 out of 10. We are here with seven days until the election, and they are now going to reprint ballots for some constituencies in the Volta Region. We do not even know the full complement of the officers who will be in charge of the elections in the 40,648 polling stations," he said.

According to Dr. Omane Boamah, many of the issues that have come up should have been resolved by the Electoral Commission months earlier, attributing the problems to the electoral body's incompetence in addressing them.

"We asked them, and they said some may change because they are still working on it. They should have done that 10 days before the elections or earlier. That was their mistake. They took that as it should be 10 days before the time if you listen to them, but they could have done it 30-60 days earlier. Who stopped them from doing that but waited until a few days before the time to release it? You heard them; they are still training," he lamented.

Ghanaians will head to the polls on December 7 to elect new leaders for both the presidency and parliamentary.
