NDC supporters clash with independent candidate in Ashaiman

There has been a scuffle in the Ashaiman Constituency between supporters of the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate, Alfred Agbesi, and that of independent candidate, Anthony Afenyo.

The two groups reportedly clashed during the house-to-house campaign of the incumbent MP.

Supporters of Mr Afenyo are accusing their opponents of attacking them without provocation.

Anthony Afenyo who was defeated by Alfred Agbesi in the NDC primaries decided to run as an independent candidate.

One of the Mr. Afenyo’s supporters who spoke to XYZ News said “we went to Adakordzi and then we saw many of them with Hon. Agbesi. They had also come to campaign over there and we too were doing our own [campaigning]. Then what we [saw was] that they rushed to our car and asked as “who asked us to come there.”

The supporter said before she could respond, somebody slapped her from behind but she is unperturbed in her quest to get the Ashaiman residents to vote for their candidate.

But the incumbent MP, Alfred Agbesi, has denied the accusations and is also blaming his opponent for causing the scuffle.

According to him, when he went out to campaign, he saw Mr Afenyo’s supporters also campaigning and hurling insults at the his entourage.

Hon Agbesi said he was in his office after the campaign when he received a call that one of his supporters called Aliu had been attacked by supporters of Afenyo and had been rushed to the hospital.

This is the second time in two days that a scuffle has ensued between politicians. on Monday NDC and NPP supporters clashed in Efutu in the Central Region. The police are yet commence investigations into the latest matter.
