NDC supporters told to be vigilant at polling stations

Jirapa (U/W), April 6, GNA - Mr. Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on supporters of the party to be vigilant at polling stations to avoid any electoral malpractices during tomorrow's bye election. He said even though the NDC was sure to win there should not be any complacency and appealed to party supporters to turn out and vote and also man the polling stations.

Mr. Nketia was addressing supporters of NDC at a rally at Jirapa to run off the NDC's campaign for the bye election that was called following the death of Mr. Edward Kojo Salia.

Mr. Nketia told the supporters that the government was investigating the former government of the New Patriotic Party and those found to have misappropriated public funds would be asked to account for them. Dr. Kwebena Adjei, National Chairman of the NDC, told people that the only thing they could do to the memory of the late Mr. Salia was for them to vote for Dr. Francis Bawaana Dakorah, the NDC candidate. He said during the NDC regime, some roads in the area were tarred but expressed regret that when the NPP took over the leadership of the country, not a single kilometre of road had been tarred.

He said the neglect of the road sector in the north had contributed immensely to the high poverty levels of the people. Dr. Adjei assured the people that the NDC would do all that it could to improve the living conditions of the people through interventions that were pro-poor and sustainable to help reduce poverty. Alhaji Iddrisu Mahama, a member of Council of State, advised the people to let the work of government appointees in the district guide them in their choice of voting for a particular political party.
