Some thugs with sympathies for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) have attacked Electoral Commission (EC) officials at Suhum in the Eastern Region, threatening to kill them if they do not effect changes in votes transfer for some persons leaving outside the constituency.

The incident which happened on Thursday saw the thugs taking away a printer belonging to the EC in the process.

The Suhum District Director of the Electoral Commission, Mensah Worlanyo in an interview with Kasapa News, Pomaa Kyekyeku, explained that his officials declined to transfer the vote of a voter who had given false information about him, only for the person to go and make a report at the NDC office in the area following which the thugs he said were NDC supporters attacked the EC office.

“The group marched to my office and demanded that the person be transferred immediately and in the event they took away our printer. They called and threatened to kill one staff, so my staff also said they will not work on Friday so we had to make a report at the Police station to give them adequate protection.”

The thugs who are said to drive in a Ford Expedition car reportedly went into hiding at the Municipal Chief Executive’s office after the act.

Mr Mensah Worlanyo noted that Thursday’s attack was not the first as the group repeated same during the EC’s limited voter registration exercise.

The Police are currently on the manhunt for the thugs.
