The Director of Legal Affairs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to establishing a state-of-the-art fertility centre and a 500-bed children’s hospital if they win the 2024 general elections.

Speaking on NewDay on TV3 on Monday, August 26, 2024, he stated that the high cost of treatment for fertility issues in the country poses a major challenge for most families.

“We have also indicated that in our manifesto that one of the things that unsettles home is the issue of fertility. We are going to build a specialised 500-bed children hospital and a fertility hospital,” he noted.

He pointed out that issues of fertility can cause severe emotional distress for most couples.

Edudzi Tameklo noted that the establishment of the fertility centre will bring peace to families struggling with fertility issues.

"If you look at homes and what the issues of fertility have done, you have no idea. The hospitals that do it, the cost of doing it — you have no idea. It's beyond the reach of most households. His, Excellency, John Dramani Mahama, as sympathetic as he is, is saying that this is what we want to do," he explained.

On Saturday, August 24, 2024, during the launch of the party’s manifesto, the former president and flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama, disclosed that the next NDC government will construct a state of the art 500-bed Specialist Children’s Hospital and a Fertility Center in Accra to address infertility challenges.
