The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said it will reserve 5% of Senior High Schools (SHS) admissions for students with talents in sports as well as other creative students.
This was contained in the 2012 manifesto of the party, launched on Thursday, October 5, at Ho in the Volta Region.
This according to the manifesto was to boost the development and promotion of sports in the country.
According to the manifesto, the party will also see to the provision of incentives for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA’S) to establish at least one well resourced sports and athletic infrastructure in districts to enhance the development of sporting talents of the nation’s youth.
It said, the party will also re-invigorate the traditional inter-schools and colleges sports competition programme as well as the provision of support to youth in sports and athletic programs across the country by allocating adequate resources for the supply of sporting equipment to schools and communities.
The party indicated that, it will also improve community and institutional sports infrastructure by developing 20 multipurpose courts in selected districts and educational institutions across the country in partnership with corporate Ghana and donors.
This is to see to the development of the lesser known sporting disciplines in the country, whilst pursing the employment of qualified technical staff to be posted to the districts as Sports Development Officers to help develop sports at the grassroots levels and to identify and nurture potential talents for the promotion of sports at the national level.
According to the manifesto, the party will also see to the qualification of the various national football teams to qualify for the various World Cup competitions and in particular the 2014 World Cup and also ensure effective participation in the Olympic Games in the same country in 2016.
