A former Minister of Power, Dr Kwabena Donkor has observed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) disgraceful defeat in the 2016 polls was also as a result of its focus in developing New Patriotic Party (NPP) strongholds in order to garner more votes to the neglect of its dominated areas.
He said unlike the current government where the attention will be on only its strongholds, the NDC will prefer to give three out of ten to places it see as a hostile ground politically.
“At least fortunately, NPP has shown us how to do it …we will not copy them; we will be different. We will recognize our own. If we give our own seven we will give them three”.
“They are doing it 10 is to 0 but we should not do it 10 is to 0 because we are patriots” former Minister and current lawmaker for Pru East, Dr. Kwabena Donkor said.
He has therefore indicated that the next NDC government will share the country’s resources to benefit only parts of Brong Ahafo Region and Ashanti Region regarded as its strongholds
According to the former government official, the NDC neglected its core members and rather switched attention to NPP in terms of development and job opportunities for votes.
“We lost 2016 simply because our branches were weak….we did not pay enough attention to party structures especially the branches”, the NDC lawmaker for Pru East in the Brong Ahafo Region observed.
Dr. Kwabena Donkor who was speaking to Tertiary Educational Institutions Network (TEIN) of the University of Education, Winneba, Campus assured members that NDC if given another opportunity to serve, will not repeat their past mistakes.
The party leadership he revealed, has now observed they lost the polls because youth of the party including members of TEIN were relegated to the background.
“We could not manage to place TEIN people in National Service in areas that could be strategic for us”, Dr. Kwabena Donkor told TEIN members of the University during their town hall meeting.
The party he noted has identified its shortfalls and steps are being taken to avert them in government in a near future.
“If two or three people have move we say we are going to build overhead at Komfo Anoakye [roundabout in Kumasi] while rural roads at Ahafo Ano and other places where we could win were there”
“Sunyani we were building Upper Ringway Road while Atebubu/Kwame Danso/ Kadjebi road is there. …So let begin to think differently”.He said.
