The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag-bearer, John Mahama, says his party will win back the Hohoe seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The NDC lost the seat to the NPP in the 2020 elections.

Addressing a mini rally at Hohoe, the former President described the constituency as a lost sheep and said he would work hard to reclaim it.

“Hohoe is the one lost sheep, and I’ve come here to look for you. And I know that on 7th December 2024, Hohoe will be found and will come back into the family of the sheep again,” he said.

He engaged with traders at the Hohoe central market, emphasizing his plans for economic growth and improved infrastructure.

“We have some plans that will stimulate the economy, especially in the Volta region.

“One of them is the women’s bank. There will be a branch of the women’s bank in this Hohoe market. Our mothers and our sisters who are doing business here, when you make your small money, you go and put it in the women’s bank. And any time you need a loan, you need a thousand cedis, you need two thousand cedis, you need five hundred cedis, you go to the women’s bank, they’ll give it to you at low interest rates, and you pay small, small,” Mahama said.

Mr. Mahama also pledged to upgrade the Adabraka Clinic in the Hohoe constituency to improve healthcare delivery. “I also want to assure Sir Kizungu and the Chief of Adabraka that we will upgrade your clinic into a polyclinic.”

Residents expressed hope that Mahama’s proposed policies will bring much-needed development to the region. “We don’t have money to start a business. We are suffering from money. If you take a loan, the interest is too much, so we need Mahama to come to power and we will be free,” said one resident.

Another resident added, “When you look at our area, we have a lot of land over there. And then the lake also is in our area. So, when he comes to power and gives us equipment that we can do work, like farming and fishing, I think we can also achieve something.”

Former President Mahama’s message of change seems to be gaining traction, setting the stage for a pivotal campaign in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections.
