Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has declared that the NDC would win if national elections were conducted today.
He asserts that while the party is confident of victory, its primary focus is on ensuring an uninterrupted and transparent electoral process.
In an interview with JoyNews on Thursday, May 23, he remarked, "Our message has been well-received. Both parties have had their chance.
"The opinion polls are out, and all signs point to a decisive victory for the NDC. However, as a Russian president once said, 'Those who vote decide nothing; those who count the votes decide everything.'
"Therefore, our attention is on those who will count the votes and those who will ensure security, so the elections can proceed smoothly. That's our priority."
Nketiah mentioned that various credible polls, not just local ones, corroborate the NDC's anticipated triumph.
"Our confidence stems from this. We're projected to win 52% of the vote this month. With free and fair elections, we expect a 52% win, which would be a clear victory."
The NDC National Chairman urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to address issues concerning the missing Biometric Verification Readers (BVRs).
He contended that the EC's transparency and responsiveness to these concerns would settle lingering disputes and bolster trust in the electoral system.
"They are fully capable of addressing these demands without complications. Their reluctance to be forthcoming is troubling and will remain so.
"I believe that transparency would have resolved these issues long ago if there was nothing to conceal," Nketiah concluded.
