The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Deputy Director of Elections, Rashid Tanko-Computer has announced that the party will not accept the collation and declaration of results for the four outstanding constituencies.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday, January 5, 2025, he described the process as illegal and vowed that it would be challenged in court.
“The wrongs happening here will be corrected through a legal process. We are not going to allow this. We have observed this, and I’ve been properly informed by our National Chairman, the General Secretary, and my boss, Dr. Omane Boamah, to assure the nation that the NDC is not part of this illegality, will not be part of it, and will not recognize anything coming from it,” he emphasised.
The re-collation of results follows a High Court ruling on Saturday, January 4, 2025, which granted an application by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) seeking to compel the Electoral Commission (EC) to complete the collation of parliamentary results for the constituency.
Justice Forson Agyapong, who presided over the case, ruled in favor of the NPP by issuing an order of mandamus, directing the EC to finalise the collation process.
In his judgment, Justice Agyapong stated that the EC had failed to collate results from 31 outstanding polling stations in the constituency, which constituted a breach of its obligations.
The court subsequently ordered the EC to collate the results from the remaining polling stations and incorporate them into the already collated figures.
Rashid Tanko further stated that the NDC was prepared to resolve the matter through legal means.
“Have you seen our candidates here? Have you seen any of our candidates? Because they were present and deposed to the affidavit that we filed. So, if one of our party people is unaware, they come. But that doesn’t authorize this process. It’s an illegal activity, and we are not going to be part of it. I’m just telling you; this is the position of the NDC. I have been sent by the leadership of the party to inform the general public that whatever is going on here, they should rest assured we will battle it to the end,” he declared.
