According to a report by Asaase Radio, aggrieved youth of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ahafo Ano South West constituency of the Ashanti Region have directed their fury at their party.
On Sunday afternoon, tensions boiled over in Mankranso, the district capital, as the party’s office became the target of their anger.
The protest resulted in the vandalization of a television, chairs, and other party assets, leaving behind a trail of destruction that underscores the simmering frustrations among party supporters.
The visibly enraged youth accuse the NDC leadership of betraying their parliamentary candidate, Sedik Abubakar, claiming what they see as a stolen victory.
“We know Sedik won, but the leadership handed the seat to the NPP on a silver platter,” one protester reportedly exclaimed, as others echoed sentiments of distrust and disillusionment.
Their grievances stem from the Electoral Commission’s declaration of the NPP’s Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah as the winner of the parliamentary race.
In a recount conducted on December 21, 2024, Dapaah was confirmed to have secured 16,680 votes, narrowly defeating Abubakar, who trailed with 16,540 votes—a razor-thin margin of just 140 votes.
The protesters, however, reject the results. Accusing the NDC leadership at all levels of negligence and conspiracy, they have threatened dire consequences for any party officials who dare to step foot in the constituency.
