NDC youth lock up health insurance offices

Goaso (B/A), March 25, GNA - The Health Insurance Office at Kukuom in Asunafo South District has temporarily been closed down by the security authorities following a confrontation between the staff and some youth believed to be supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from Kukuom, Sankore, Nobekaw and Kwapong. Police personnel from Goaso were deployed to Kukuom last Friday to beef up security in the town.

The youth allegedly accused the staff of making derogatory remarks against the government and the District Chief Executive for the area. Earlier on that day the youth, wearing red bands, besieged the premises of the health insurance office, locked up the offices with new padlocks and to express their displeasure.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) the Goaso District Police Commander Deputy Superintendent of Police Twumasi Ankrah said the closure had become necessary following the security situation in the town. The District Chief Executive advised the youth to exercise restraint while their problem was addressed and ordered that all keys to the offices be handed over to the police. He further directed that the health insurance vehicles be parked at the Goaso police station.
