NEP trains 15,000 persons for health sector

Accra, Nov. 28, GNA - The National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) has so far trained over 15,000 persons for the health sector under the Health Extension Workers Programme, Nana Akomea, Minister of Manpower, Youth and Employment, said on Tuesday. He said the Ministry hoped to recruit an additional 10,000 persons into various districts after six months of training. This was contained in a message read for him at the 10th anniversary celebrations of Elite Nursing Agency and Health Promotion Centre in Accra.
Nana Akomea said the government had taken notice of problems pertaining to the NYEP especially the release of funds and would do all that it could to address them.
He lauded the Agency for contributing towards the health sector and assured it of government's assistance. Madam Comfort Martey, a representative of the Ministry of Health, said the Ministry would strengthen technical support to all private nursing institutions and that it would also ensure the practice of high standards of professional conduct.
She said by providing support and relief services to people with chronic diseases in their homes, the Agency was helping to reduce congestion at hospitals.
