The Ghana chapter of the African Poverty Eradication Commission (APEC) has presented Special Educational materials worth 10,000 dollars, about 22.5 million cedis, to the School for the Blind at Akropong-Akwapim. The materials, which include English reading books, Bibles, books on mathematics, science, music, writing materials and dictionaries are in braille and large prints. Others are recorded cassettes on typing and other subjects and empty cassettes. They were donated by individuals and benevolent organisations in the US for the training of total, partially and visually impaired students of the school. APEC (Ghana) is a branch of APEC international, an NGO with its headquarters in Los Angeles. Major Adolf N. Clerk (rtd), Director of the Ghana chapter, said the materials, will help the blind students make a living and train others. He said the materials will be followed by a donation of major items such as hospital equipment and drugs for the school's clinic. Major Clerk expressed the hope that the use of these special educational materials will enhance the training, and assessment of students. Receiving the items, Mr. A.O. Larbi, Assistant director of education in charge of Akropong, thanked the donors for their gesture and expressed the hope that with the materials the school will be at par with the formal schools within the shortest time.
