NGO appeals to state to appreciate people with disability

Here for Perfection (H4P), a non-governmental organization, has appealed to the state to appreciate the abilities of people with disabilities instead of always focusing on their deformity.

“Everybody has a form of disability – physically, emotionally, spiritually, educationally or even financially; but we turn to ridicule people with physical disability,” it said in a statement to the GNA.

“It is time as a nation and people we begin to focus on their talents and the in-depth abilities of people with physical disabilities, let’s give them the opportunities contribute to nation building.”

H4P is therefore organizing “Ayeyi Concert” to raise funds to support H4P’s National Inter-schools Disability Fun Games which will be held on February 6, 2015. The concert is slated for November 22 at the National Theatre.

The statement said the National Inter-Schools Disability Fun Games is an annual sporting event for special education schools in Ghana initiated by H4P to facilitate the development of the abilities of persons with disabilities in sports.

The H4P’s Special Advocacy for persons with disability focuses on showcasing the abilities of persons with disability and in so doing seeks to change the negative societal perception that makes people view disability as inability.

As part of activities to raise funds for their projects, H4P organizes melodrama concerts twice every year.
