Agona Swedru (C/R), Sept 15, GNA- The Progressive Horizon Incorporated, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) based in US has presented hospital equipment worth 6,000 dollars (67 million cedis) to the Agona Swedru Government Hospital. The items included syringes and needles, theatre draping for patients, drainage tubes, orthopaedic kits and wheel chairs.
Mr Jerry O. Pittman, Executive Director of the NGO said the organisation was not supplying only hospital equipment, but also assisting in the construction of infrastructure for hospitals in the country. He said similar donation had been made to the Ridge Hospital in Accra, Sisala in the Northern Region, Kpando and Hohoe in the Volta region. Mr Pittamn noted that the NGO had supplied equipment worth more than three million dollars within this year to hospitals.
Mr Samuel Obodai, Member of Parliament for Agona West through whose instrumentality, the items were donated, expressed appreciation to the donors for the kind gesture.
Mr John Kwesi Agyabeng, District Chief Executive for Agona said the District Assembly had provided infrastructure, and accommodation as for health workers to provide quality health delivery services to the people. He noted that government was committed to providing assistance to the health sector and that donation in the form of drugs would be welcomed.
Dr Kojo Sakyi-Appiah, Agona District Director of Health Services who received the items assured the donor, the MP and DCE that the equipment would be fairly distributed to all health centres in the area.
