NGO head kicks against Ghana Coalition of NGOs

Mr Eric Kwabena Agbozo, Executive Director of Defence Against AIDS, Poverty and Underdevelopment (DAAPU), said on Friday that the organisation is a legitimate member of Ghana Coalition of NGOs and in good standing.

A statement he issued in Accra and copied to Ghana News Agency, accused the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Coalition of injustice and expressed the decision of DAAPU to resolve the impasse with the Board peacefully or seek redress in court.

Mr Agbozo said he vied for the position of the Chairman of the Greater Accra Region (GAR) branch of the Coalition and won.

He claimed that the election was however annulled because some members of the Coalition asked him to refund GH? 3500.00 to the National Leadership.

Mr Agbozo alleged that the basis of the demand was to pay the money to the National Leadership, and he refused to do.

“ I will like to state that I ignored the demand of the National Leadership of the Coalition for the kick back from the money given and used for the purpose for which it was meant and duly accounted to the Secretariat of the National Coalition and this activity was way back in December 2011,” he claimed.

He said: “I therefore challenge the National Leadership to submit any payment voucher which shows that I have been given GH? 3500.00 and for which I did not account.

Mr Agbozo alleged that the National Leadership nullified his election as Regional Chairman position, and reconstituted an electoral college to re-open nominations.

He said he is therefore defending his rights as a member in good standing and also salvage the image of the NGO community.

“I have therefore decided and resolved to take this line of action to draw the attention of the government and for that matter Ghana Health Services as well as the Department of Social Welfare to get into the affairs of the Coalition to help correct the rot that is being perpetuated by the National Leadership.

“Further, I have directed my lawyers place an injunction on the impending AGM (Annual General Meeting) and also seek order to nullify the results of the GAR election on the grounds that I have been unjustifiably disqualified and a stranger to the Coalition imposed on us.”

Mr Agbozo appealed to Economic and Organised Crime Office to audit the Coalition’s account.
