NGO spends 765.9 million cedis on projects

Dalun (N/R), May 16, GNA - The Ghanaian-Danish Communities Association (GDCA), an NGO operating in the Northern Region, has spent 765.9 million cedis to provide social infrastructure for nine communities last year.

The GDCA provided school infrastructure, students' hostels and the extension of pipelines to Pong Tamale, Choggu-Yepalsi, Kogni, Kpatuli, Tolon, Kumbungu, Langa, Jahanjori-Kukuo and Dalun communities. Dr. Abubakr Al-Hassan, Chairman of the GDCA, announced this at the 21st Annual General Meeting of the Association at Dalun on Sunday. He said 954 youth had been trained at the Dagbon Ninneesim Karimzong (DNK) literacy classes while it collaborated with the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly and the Ministry of Manpower, Youth and Employment to train 80 street children on employable skills under the community based Poverty Reduction Project.

He said 124 women groups comprising 2,808 individuals, received financial support to undertake income-generating activities. The GDCA Chairman said 2.9 million cedis was disbursed for 63 people as bicycle loans while 27 million cedis went to 54 farmers as plough and boots loans.

Dr. Al-Hassan said 202 primary school girls and 52 JSS girls were provided scholarship totalling 56 million cedis. The scheme also distributed 4,300 insecticide treated mosquito bed-nets and 400 min-bags of iodised salt.
