NGO supports 100 children

Senya Beraku (C/R), Oct 6, GNA - Rescue Foundation Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has donated school items worth 6,000 U.S dollars to 100 high risk children in eight communities in Senya Bereku.

Beneficiary children ages between seven and nine years are from Alata/Egyaa, Afamato/Odomase Nkwanta, Bonsuku/Kroboshie, Kyenkyeso/Kolebu, Obaakwai/Obodam, Mantse Makabi, Anomansa, Simpapebisu communities. The received two school uniforms each, pens, pencils, a pair of foot ware, books and school bags.

Making the donation, Mrs Louise Makau Velle, Central Africa Programme Director, Geneva Global, a London-based NGO that sponsored the donation said the gifts is to help in rolling back child labour and child trafficking in Africa. She said the gesture is to ensure a safe environment for the healthy growth and development children to enable them live comfortable and productive lifestyle.

Mrs Velle appealed to parents in the area to use their limited resources to invest in their children's development as they were the future leaders. She said if they were not given the needed skills and training, they would not be able to withstand the challenges that may confront them. Mrs Valle called on other NGOs to join in the fight to eliminate child labour and child trafficking in the society. Mrs Sylvia Hinson Ekong, Executive Director, Rescue Foundation Ghana said the donations to high risk children was under the theme "Dabi Ntsi Project", and it is aimed at ensuring that children in such communities were protected against trafficking and engagement in child labour activities. She said the goal of the project is to bring about change in the attitudes of community members towards their own development through an integrated participatory approach. Mr Ekong urged the community members to contribute their quota towards the socio-economic development of the country, which includes proper upbringing of the child. Mr Alan Bans Yoawson, Senya Bereku, Area Council member who chaired the function thanked the NGOs for coming to the aid of the needy children and assured them that the Council would do their best to support the NGOs in their programmes.
