Krofu(C/R), June 22, GNA - The Association of Rural and Environmental Development (ARED), a non-governmental organisation (NGO) based at Mankessim, has trained 58 peer educators on HIV/AIDS management at Krofu near Mankessim.

The participants for the two-week course in two batches were from the Mfantseman District.

Mr. Yaw Osei Asibey, a Resource Person took the participants through reproductive health, gender issues, the mode of HIV/AIDS transmission, and prevention of the disease and the effect of stigmatisation on the spread of the disease among others.

Addressing the closing session of the last batch, Mr. Robert Koomson, Executive Director of ARED urged the participants to impart the skills they had acquired and to make use of them to prevent the spread of the deadly disease.

Mr. Koomson called on the people to reverse the alarming rate of the spread of HIV/AIDS in the Central Region and charged peer educators to step up their activities. He said his organisation would set a task force to monitor the work of peer educators and to offer them the necessary assistance.
