NGO unveils development package for Abossey Okai

Abossey Okai in the Ablekuma Central Constituency has been chosen among urban poor communities to benefit from numerous social intervention programmes to give the area a face lift.

A formal community entry sponsored by the CHF Intervention, a non-governmental Organisation (NGO) in Ghana, with the support from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to unveil the development package to the people ended on Saturday.

Among the major problems identified by the people to be tackled were poor sanitation, lack of health facilities, library and skilled training for the youth who could not continue their basic education.

Mr. Solomon Tetteh, Project Officer of the Nima Community Support Service, a local NGO engaged by CHF International, said based on the Ghana Poverty Map, some 24 communities such as Abossey Okai, Sukura, Russia, Dansoman, Osu, Kwashieman, Nima and New Town were selected to benefit from the intervention.

He said CHF would extend capacity building activities to a large number of communities to empower them to enable them take up the challenge to rekindle their communal spirit.

He said the programme was also aimed at increasing the constructive participation of slum residents in governance to mobilise community initiatives.

The Assembly man for Abossey Okai, Mr Seth Allotey appealed to stakeholders to support the development of the area.**
