The Department of Social Welfare has cautioned non-governmental organizations to ensure that they use funding they receive from donors for its intended purpose.

Mr Joseph Kojo Attigah, Deputy Director at the Department of Social Welfare, said: “Many Non-Governmental Organizations lose their support owing to the lack of accountability and transparency in their operations”.

He gave the advice in an interview with the GNA after the launch of Agyeman Eye Foundation, an organization that seeks to promote healthy eyesight among Ghanaians.

Mr Attigah said the Department of Social Welfare work in collaboration with NGO’s to provide equal opportunities and support to vulnerable people in their communities.

The Department is concerned with issues such as access to quality childhood development care, good health care, technical, vocational, primary education, and social protection programmes.

He advised parents to take child care issues serious by putting their children’s health and safety first, emphasizing that the Department of Social Welfare also believed that “a healthy home is a happy home”.

Mr Attigah urged Ghanaians and donors to support non-governmental organizations that were truly concerned about vulnerable in our society.

The Agyeman Eye Foundation (AEF) will be providing support to people especially children and youth from deprived communities needing eye treatment.

The Foundation would not only provide support in terms of aid, but also embark upon public education to ensure that we can enjoy our sight throughout our lifetime.
