NMC to conduct inquiry into state-owned media reporting

Accra, Feb. 26, GNA - The National Media Commission (NMC) on Thursday said it would conduct an inquiry into concerns raised about fairness by the state-owned media in presenting divergent views and dissenting expressions. The Commission, in a statement in Accra said the inquiry was in line with its statutory mandate under Section 2(d) of the NMC Act, 1993. It said the Act enjoined NMC to "take measures to ensure that persons responsible for state-owned media afford fair opportunities and facilities for the presentation of divergent views and dissenting opinions".

The statement said the inquiry would cover Ghana News Agency, Graphic Communications Group Limited, New Times Corporation and Ghana Broadcasting Corporation. "It is the hope of the Commission that the inquiry will help to strengthen professionalism in the state-owned media," it said.
