THE WESTERN Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Peter Mac Manu, has stated that Ghanaians decided to change the NDC government through the use of their thumbs because they now want to see the entrenchment of democracy in Ghana.
He has, therefore, warned that any attempt by a group of people to destabilize President Kufuor's government through a coup d'etat would be met with strong resistance by the people of this country who have now opted for a true democracy.
Mr. Mac Manu, who was speaking at the inauguration of the Sekondi Zongo branch of the Nasara Club at Sekondi, last week, said the NPP government on its part would ensure that the rule of law, respect for individual dignity and strict observance of human rights, which are all part and parcel of democracy, are observed.
"Ghanaians have now voted for a good government. A government that respects the freedom of speech and also adheres to what the constitution of the land says," he told the ever-enthusiastic Zongo party supporters who turned up in their large numbers at the inauguration, which was done by Alhaji Maiga, national chairman of the Nasara Club.
Mr. Manu further told the party supporters and the entire zongo community who voted for the party not to listen to the lies being peddled in some quarters by the opposition NDC against their great NPP party, but must continue to have confidence in President Kufuor's government as they also try to re-shape the shattered economy to make life comfortable for all Ghanaians.
Turning the heat on NDC, Mac Manu called on them to leave NPP alone since their days of cheating, intimidation, harassment and abuse of human rights ended on the day the good people of this country decided to vote them out of power.
According to Mac Manu, though the NDC left behind a shattered economy they have been going round saying so many things about the economy as if the current mess was caused by the NPP government.
He further said when NDC was in power many of the state-owned companies or corporations were in distress situation whilst many others also collapsed.
He mentioned some of the distress companies in the Western Region as the Abosso Glass Factory and Bonso Tyre Factory at Bonsaso
The NPP Western regional chairman further told the jubilant supporters that to save the two aforementioned companies from total collapse, the Western Regional administration, headed by Hon. Joseph Boahen Aidoo, the Regional Minister, recently held a meeting with stone and Wepster, a consulting firm based in Scotland, to help get investors to take over the two companies.
He said they are also working to get these investors to take up the dredging of the Takoradi Port, which recently won an international award for its efficient operations.
According to Manu, these are all measures they are putting in place to create employment for Ghanaians, but the NDC, who virtually destroyed the economy, would not allow NPP to implement its policies by going round telling the people all sorts of lies against the government.
He reminded the supporters that within the short period that NPP has been in power, many of them have seen the vast difference between them and NDC since the latter is only interested in talking about doing nothing.
The Sekondi Zongo Nasara, which has now joined 286 others nationwide, is under the chairmanship of Mallam Awal.
The secretary is Zulukefe Sirina, with Abdul Wahip and Nasiba as organiser and women's organiser respectively.
Present at the inauguration were Armiyao Harunah, special assistant to the Vice President, Alhaji Tanko, the national co-ordinator of the Nasara Club, among other dignitaries.
