NPP Elder campaigns for Akufo-Addo

An Elder of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ablekuma North constituency of the Greater Accra Region, Stephen Atta Godson, has called on all those who have declared their intention to contest the flagbearership slot of the party to throw their weights behind Nana Akufo-Addo – the flagbearer in the 2008 and 2012 general elections – for the party to remain united to recapture power in 2016.

“It is important Nana Akufo-Addo is made to go unopposed so that he and the other aspirants can pool resources for the big battle in 2016,” he appealed, stressing that Nana Akufo-Addo is the people’s choice who will clearly win the slot.

According to him, the party had already marketed Nana Akufo-Addo extensively and therefore it would be easier to sell him to the electorate this time round.

Mr. Atta Godson, who was speaking to the DAILY GUIDE, said it would take hard work and proper organisation at the polling station level for the party to regain power, even if Nana Akufo-Addo was made to lead the party again.

“We need to strategise well for 2016 because the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government will not let political power slip through its fingers just like that, and could do anything to rig the elections again,” he noted.

He said the NPP must not fail Ghanaians and so must endeavour to recapture power to reverse the deteriorating economic condition in the country.

“Factories are closing down because of high utility tariffs, petroleum prices; the teeming youth are not finding work to do and all that we see is corruption and misappropriation of public funds,” he said, stressing that the current economic hardships in the country is unprecedented.

He used the platform to congratulate the newly elected national executives.

“We are indeed expecting a lot from them and so the new national executives must show true leadership and be impartial in whatever they do for the party,” he urged.
