NPP In Slight Lead In Greater Accra

A research conducted by The Daily Dispatch indicates that the NPP will win 13 of the 27 seats, the NDC 13: the Convention People?s Party (CPP)-one and the Odododiodio Constituency too close to call.

With the breaking up of certain constituencies, the newly created constituency of Weija has the highest number of voters in the country, 154,705, with the highest number of polling stations-165.

Apart from internal squabbles with the NPP in Weija, the NDC appears too strong for the NPP.

The Great Consolidated People?s Party (GCPP) has only one parliamentary candidate in Greater Accra.

The NPP are likely to lose three of the seven seats they won in 2000-Ledzokuku, Krowor and Ashiaman to the NDC.

The Greater Accra Region had 17.2 per cent of registered voters for the 2000 elections, the second Highest.

For this year?s elections, with a total voter population of 10.28 million Greater Accra?s, 2,080,975 voters make the region the highest, with 20.2 per cent.

It seats on offer has been increased from 22 in 2000 to 27 and unlike 2000 when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) won 16 of the 22 sears, it will be stretched by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) this year.

The NPP?s Candidate, 41-year old Ms Shirley Botchwey has the enthusiasm to ? battle? hard.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister Sheikh. I.CF Quaye will be returned to Parliament as the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso Central but his political battle with one of the Sinare siblings, Ms Miraim Sinare, will be tense, fierce and hopefully devoid of any acts of violence from any of the political parties.

The only seat the CPP is likely to win will be in the newly created Sege Constituency where Wg Cdr (rtd) Pat Sogbordjor can pip the NDC?s candidate.

Ghana?s High Commissioner to India, Prof Mike Oquaye, is likely to win another of the newly created constituencies-Dome/Kwabenya.
