NPP Is Worried Over NDC’s

Massive Positive Achievements

… in only 21/2 yrs

… says, Research And Advocacy Platform

By Cletus Abaare

A group by name Research and Advocacy Platform (RAP) has observed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is panicking over the unprecedented massive achievements the government of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has chalked within its short period in office.

“Burning under the weight of the impressive gains chalked by the Mills administration over the last two and a half years, which gains greatly imperil their chances of recapturing power in the near future, the NPP has resorted to false claims of corruption against the Mills government as a way of chipping away at the solid credibility of President Mills”, the group in a press conference has stated.

Leading this diabolic path, according to the group’s Convener, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, is the Minority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensa-Bonsu and his colleagues in Parliament.

Kwakye Ofosu said on daily basis, top members the NPP peddle falsehood about aircrafts agreements entered into by the government on behalf of the state with a view to discredit the government to the good people of Ghana just to score cheap political points ahead of the 2012 general elections.

“This level of irresponsibility is unbecoming of people from whom Ghanaians expect much. It is about time that the NPP begins to realize that their brand of politics which is often devoid of scruple is inconsistent with the aspirations of the people of this country and take steps to consign it to the dustbin lest they become irrelevant.

Although the RAP understood that Ghanaians expected the NPP and its Minority to hold the government accountability, “We of the Research and Advocacy Platform welcome any constructive criticism emanating from their fold but we wish to disavow the politics of lies that they have embarked upon”, he said in asserted.

The group convener further stated it was an embarrassment that the NPP Minority who was expected to offer qualitative representation to their constituents should shelve this noble responsibility and indulge in anti-government propaganda.

He continued that the NDC with its Social Democratic credentials have replaced 1,029 schools under trees with modern classroom blocks, distributed free school uniforms to hundreds of thousands of school children in deprived communities which the NPP could not do for 8 years.

He said the NDC administration has provided 42 million exercise books to school children, distributed over 3,000 modern laptops to students across the country, and instituted the MASTESS scheme to offer scholarships to science and maths students in tertiary institutions.

“The same week that the agreement to purchase the aircrafts for the Airforce was passed, loan agreements totaling USD 616 Million were passed by parliament to fund the construction and rehabilitation of major hospitals in the country. Out of this amount, USD 257 Million will be used to upgrade the three major teaching hospitals in Ghana, namely the Korle-Bu ,Komfo Anokye and Tamale Teaching Hospitals as well as 90 District Hospitals in the country.

An amount of EUR 13 Million has been secured to undertake expansion works at the Barikese water works in the Ashanti Region while USD 36 Million has also been earmarked for Agric development.

Another $359 Million will be used to construct a 597 bed Teaching Hospital at Legon, upgrade the Ho Regional Hospital and the Hohoe District Hospital built by the NDC 1 and 2 regimes respectively.

In order to increase the Nation’s electricity generation capacity $75.8 Million was also approved by Parliament in the same week for the construction of a 110 MW Combined Cycle Thermal Plant at Aboadze. Still in the electricity sub-sector USD 103 Million was also approved to finance the national electrification scheme with particular attention to be paid to the Upper East Region to restore parity in electricity supply, ”, he remarked.
