Former Super Morning Show host of Joy FM, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah has picked nomination forms to contest in the main opposition New Patriotic Party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries.
Mr Oppong-Nkrumah sent representatives of a group called ‘Friends of Oppong-Nkrumah’ to pick the forms for him at the Party’s Ofoase-Ayirebi Constituency in the Eastern Region, where he intends to contest.
The Party’s Regional Vice Chairman Alhaji Omar Bodinga confirmed to Starr News’ Josephine Asabea Akonor in an interview that Mr Oppong-Nkrumah was the third person to pick the forms two days ago, after nominations were opened.
“He is a card-bearing member in good standing,” Mr Bodinga said, adding that the former Broadcaster has been a registered member of the party since 2004.
Posters of Oppong-Nkrumah’s parliamentary campaign flooded social media barely a week after flyers of fellow OccupyGhana member George Andah surfaced in similar fashion to announce his intentions to contest the main opposition New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primaries for Ewutu Senya West.
Oppong-Nkrumah’s AYFON-sponsored flyers come with the tagline: ‘vision, competence, humble service’. Unlike Mr Andah – former Chief Operating Officer of Glo Ghana and until recently, a leading member of OccupyGhana – who has come out publicly to confirm his political ambitions, Mr Oppong-Nrumah is yet to come out publicly about his intentions.
Another flyer making the rounds is that of another Broadcaster Gifty Anti, who, just this week, denied having any political ambitions after the Daily Guide Newspaper named her as one of many OccupyGhana members who intend running for Parliament.
Her poster, sponsored by a group calling itself ‘Friends of Gifty Anti’ (FOGA), is being used to solicit votes for her to be the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the Ajumako Enyan Essiam Constituency for 2016.
Others, who according to the Daily Guide Newspaper are nursing MP ambitions include legal practitioner Egbert Faibille Jnr, who is allegedly eying the Weija/Gbawe seat; and Managing Editor of the Searchlight Newspaper Kenneth Adjei Kuranchie, who is claimed to have his eyes set on the Okaikoi North seat.
The seat targeted by Mr Andah is currently occupied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hanna Tetteh, while those purportedly targeted by Mr Oppong-Nkrumah and Ms Anti are being occupied by David Oppon-Kusi and Cassiel Ato Forson, respectively.
