General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, has accused President Mahama of being able to buy cars for University ladies but unable to pay doctors on strike.
Sir John who was reacting to the arrival of Cuban doctors on Asempa FM said “instead of him (President Mahama) to heed to the doctors plight, he had the money to buy cars for university ladies for free, but can’t pay the striking doctors. If you are blessed with a big ass and in the university, after the free car you are likely to be named as a minister”.
Adding, “…He (Prez Mahama) should rather tell the doctors to stop working so the Cuban doctors will take over and work”.
“They (Government) should send some of the Cuban doctors to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) where the doctors cannot interact frequently with patients. I don’t really know where President Mahama want to take this nation to and his style of governance,” he said.
Three hundred (300) Cuban doctors have arrived in the country, to support healthcare delivery under a medical service and educational agreement between Ghana and Cuba.
The Cuban doctors will not be paid salaries but rather receive monthly allowances of $150 and free accommodation.
According to the Minister of Health, Mrs. Sherry Ayittey the arrival of the Cuban doctors had nothing to do with the doctors’ strike in the country, which is in its third week.
