The assertion that has gained credence in the public domain to the effect that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has inherited a mess from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been debunked by Dr. Obed Asamoah, the national chairman.
The truth of the matter is that they have not inherited any mess. It was rather the PNDC/NDC that inherited the mess and started a restructuring exercise that brought the economy this far, he said in an interview.
To him therefore, the assumption that they had inherited a mess was wrong and since they had not inherited any mess, they had to do something within the four years in terms of their promises, after all the life of a government in Ghana is four years. He said in those days there was hardly anything in the stores or in the market. The basic necessities of life did not exist. They brought things this far, and now, almost anything that one waned, one could get.
?The NDC had done a lot in constructing asphalted roads, brought about telecommunication facilities and extended electricity to various rural areas among other achievements, he said.
Dr. Obed Asamoah argued that assuming the NPP had inherited a mess from the NDC, they should have know about what they were inheriting and that the promises they made must have taken into account what they were inheriting, unless they did not know, in which case, they were just being irresponsible.
Responding to how the PNDC transformed into NDC, the veteran politician stated: In one term, which is particularly in terms of personality, a number of people that played a role in the PNDC period also played a role in the period of the NDC. But the NDC was set up as a result of the dawn of a new constitutional era. It has donned a different garb, so it could not really be said that it was the same as PNDC.
