Tension erupted in Begoro in the Fanteakwa district of the Eastern region Friday morning as supporters of the ruling NPP and main opposition NDC clashed over a vehicle.

According to reports, irate NPP supporters attacked a driver of the district assembly on assumption that he was bolting away with an official vehicle on the instruction of the District Chief Executive Fuseini Sbaabe.

The supporters forcibly led the driver to park the vehicle at the district police station, after mounting road blocks on his way.

However, it turns out the vehicle was being sent to the washing bay to be cleaned up for a formal handing over by the DCE.

The conduct of the NPP supporters is believed to have angered the NDC followers in the area who also followed up at the Police station in defense of the DCE, causing the chaos.

The DCE has confirmed the incident.

The development comes in the wake of the dismissal of all Municipal, Metropolitan and District Chief Executives by President Nana Akufo-Addo on Thursday.
