NPP National Executives urged to ensure level playing field

Tamale, Oct.14, GNA - Mr Harruna Abubakari Sadiq, former Northern Regional Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has appealed to the National Executive of the party to ensure a level playing field for candidates contesting for various positions in the Regional Executive.

He said an Interim Management Committee (IMC) was put in place to administer affairs of the party in the region, but it became defunct with the old executives now acting and organizing activities for the impending regional executive elections.

Mr Sadiq who is contesting for the position of Regional Secretary, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Tamale on Friday, expressed concern about the old executives organising the elections. He said "with the old executives handling affairs for the regional elections, there will not be transparency and fair play because some of them would like to favour other contestants."

Mr Sadiq said this was the first time a highly competitive elections for positions in the regional executive was being conducted and was optimistic that measures would be put in place not to jeopardize the conduct of a free and transparent elections. He suggested that a conference for all contestants should be held to enable them clarify some issues that were likely to undermine the elections.

Mr Sadiq appealed to the contestants and supporters of the party to rally behind whoever would emerge as the Regional Chairman and work together for the unity, progress and victory of the party in 2008. "We need a rejuvenated Regional Executive Committee that will transform the party to win more seats in 2008," He added.
