The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Cape Coast North, Horace Ekow Ewusi, has petitioned President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the removal of Professor Harold S. Amonoo-Kuofi as the Chairman of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Governing Council, citinewsroom.com reports.
Ewusi's petition highlights concerns over Prof. Amonoo-Kuofi’s leadership style and its impact on the university's administration.
He claims the chairman's actions have disrupted the university’s operations and are driven by a personal agenda.
"I humbly write to bring to your attention the disturbing conduct of the Chairperson of the Governing Council of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Prof. Harold S. Amonoo-Kuofi, which is affecting the smooth running of the University and further petition your high office to investigate same and further humbly request for his removal," Ewusi stated in his petition.
Ewusi argued that Prof. Amonoo-Kuofi’s autocratic approach and unilateral decision-making have clashed with key university bodies, including the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) and the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).
"He lacks a fundamental grasp of corporate governance principles and behaves as an executive chairman, making unilateral decisions without recourse to members of the University Council," Ewusi added.
The petition also accused Prof. Amonoo-Kuofi of targeting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, causing significant tension and division within the university community.
This, Ewusi believes, undermines the university's reputation and affects the NPP's support base among the faculty and staff, the report added.
A recent notice signed by Prof. Amonoo-Kuofi on August 2 announced the termination of Prof. Boampong's appointment as Vice-Chancellor, further escalating the situation.
