NPP Pastor preaches anti-northern sermon in Kumasi

It appears that the hatred the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has for the people from the northern parts of the country will never go away.

Two Sunday’s ago, whilst the late former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, one of their own, who was in hospital fighting against a stroke that had struck him, as revealed by his boss, ex-President Kufuor, the NPP had organized a prayer festival in Kumasi, the heart of Ashanti Region, its stronghold , under the guise of seeking the face of God. But guess what happened.

A pastor by name, Prophet Kofi Amponsah, who was one of the preachers invited to share their gospel with their foot soldiers and other big wigs of the party, shockingly declared a special prayer session against the people of the Northern Region, saying “evil forces” that will specifically rise up from that part of the country against the rest of Ghana, will fail for the will of God, to prevail, adding, “this time around, God will rule”.

“My beloved listen,” chanted Prophet Kofi Amponsah: “we are pointing our hands directly to the Northern Region; we are pointing to the Northern Region; we are pointing there”, he directed, quoting Isaiah 7:7 and Acts 12:12, both of which talks about how God’s power will prevail over all principalities.

In an exclusive audio tape sent to The Herald, Prophet Amponsah is loudly heard, saying “Whatever evil powers that will emanate from the Northern Region we condemn it”, claiming people who have buried live cows, human beings or even performed blood sacrifices somewhere in the North, to enable them win power, will fail.

The Kumasi –based Prophet Amponsah did not mention any other region apart from the Northern Region.

He mentioned it many times, screaming Jesus! Jesus!! Adding, “God will deliver Ghana”.

The audio tape, which has been played on a number of radio stations in Kumasi, has angered people with northern extraction.

Ironically, whilst Pastor Amponsah’s hate sermon was going on, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice-Presidential candidate of the NPP, who hails from a village near Walewale in the Upper West Region, was looking on and giggling to the utter shock of many.

He was there with his wife, Samira Bawumia, daughter of the People’s National Convention (PNC) National Chairman, Ahmed Ramadan.

In 2007 when the NPP was looking for successor to Mr. Kufuor, Aliu Mahama, then his Vice-President also offered himself for election, but was vehemently rejected by the NPP leadership.

Indeed, then President Kufuor even chose Alan Kyeremanteng, a former Minister over his two term-Vice, who had been under his tutelage for almost eight years.

The ‘prayer’ was organized under the auspices of the party’s flag bearer Nana Akufo-Addo, who has sharply departed from the concert party campaign held in 2008, to a religion-driven one to appear God-fearing.
