NPP-USA TO HOST DEBATE BY ASPIRANTS IN DALLAS, TX
The “D” in Dallas must not only stand for the name of a famous city in the USA but also the making of history in Ghana’s politics – as in “D” for DEBATE- the first ever among prospective candidates from the same party. On October 20, 2007 the Aspirants vying to be picked as THE NPP Presidential Candidate will debate each other as the main feature of the NPP-USA 2007 Congress in Dallas Texas.
As you read this, NPP has opened the door for its Aspirants to pick up their application forms. They will have until November 22, 2007 to file their papers and be vetted by the party’s executives. Coming within one month of the closing date, participation in this historic debate will signal just who among the 17 to 20 men will be moving from “Water Testers” to “Aspirants”. Of course after Aspirants pay their GH 25,000 cedis application fee they will become “Contenders” on their way to praying, jostling and campaigning to be declared THE WINNER. Time flies and Dallas will give us a peek at who this WINNER could be.
NPP-USA is going to ensure that the debate is played on Ghana’s TV and other media, so prospective voters can be their own best judges. The media is coming to Dallas; the pens will be scribbling and the tapes will be rolling. It will be a moment to relish and remember. The Aspirants will get a chance to distinguish themselves and set themselves apart in answering the ultimate question- why should YOU be given the mandate to become the next President of Ghana? We do not apologize for being presumptuous. In American style debate, each debater will have to be brief and get to the point. They will even get the chance to clear those stubborn questions that haunt their pursuit. The confirmations are coming in and if I were dreaming of becoming the NPP Flagbearer on my way to the Castle in January 2009, I certainly will not miss the debate on October 20th- not for the opportunity to sell and distinguish myself and vision; the chance to play up to a bigger world to demonstrate Ghana’s maturing democracy; certainly to be a part of history and who knows? – To attract much needed campaign contributions.
