NPP Regional Chairman calls for unity

Koforidua, Jan. 2, GNA- The Eastern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Yaw Gyekye Amoabeng, on Wednesday called on supporters and sympathizers of the 17 presidential aspirants of the party to unite and rally behind the elected candidate to win this year's election.

He said the election would be based on issues, therefore everybody in the party matter.

Speaking in a telephone interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Koforidua, Mr Amoabeng said what the party needed at the moment was unity among members towards an intensified campaign. He appealed to all feuding factions to bury their differences and see themselves as members of one family with a common destiny. Mr Amoabeng commended all the aspirants and their supporters for the way and manner they conducted themselves during the just ended congress.

He was of the view that with Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo as the presidential candidate, the NPP would retain power in the forth coming general elections, but was quick to add that there would be no place for complacency.

Mr Amoabeng said the matured manner the congress was conducted and how Mr Alan Kyerematen, one of the contestants conceded defeat to Nana Akuffo Addo was a clear manifestation that the party was really democratic.

He said the regional secretariat was putting all the needed structures and logistics in place to ensure that the party once again wins more Parliamentary seats in the region as well as greater votes for the Presidential.

The chairman cautioned that it party would deal with any member who would try to create confusion in the party and urged all supporters to respect the party's constitution, be law abiding and conduct themselves well from now up to the Election Day.
