NPP Supporters Attacked in Bawku

Supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Garu Timpani constituency in the Upper East Region are reported to have been brutalized by a combined team of police and soldiers in Bawku.

The supporters say the incident happened as they were traveling to Bolga to present a petition to the regional minister to protest the endorsement of the deputy defence minister, Joe Akudibilah as the NPP parliamentary candidate for the constituency.

Their action followed the party?s decision last week not to hold election at the constituency but to endorse Mr. Akudibilah an independent MP, as it?s parliamentary candidate.

But the supporters of the party have rejected the decision by the national executive.

A member of the group, Jonathan Jambaeidu, told JoyNews from Bawku that the convoy of supporters was set upon by a combined team of police and army officers who said they did not have a police permit to go to Bawku.
